Living as far north as he does, Kevin Salonius experiences some of the strangest days and nights of anyone on our team. We asked Kevin what he does to get ready for the changing seasons.
- When do you know winter is coming to an end and it’s time to start getting ready for spring? Is it a smell in the air, daylight savings time, a certain feeling, etc.?
It's the feeling I get when the weather starts to get warmer and the days are getting longer, and when the snow is starting to melt in the backyard I know that the winter is coming to an end. We only have a few hours of daylight per day in the middle of the winter here in Finland so it's always super nice when it's getting light outside for longer during the spring and summertime.
- What is your first action to prepare for spring? Do you start new fitness routines, clean winter storage, tune spring gear, etc.?
I usually begin the spring by cleaning the snow off my mini ramp and trampoline in the backyard when the weather starts to get warmer and also prepare the backyard rail setup for the summer rail season.
- What is the last thing you do to officially close down winter and move into a new season?
When the local ski resorts close for the season, my friends and I usually go hike some rails and tubes a few more times on the snow that's still left before it all melts. I think that's the last thing we usually do to close down the winter season.
